Quick answer

Is Centauro a good fit for your Spain rental?

Centauro publishes a relatively clear payment policy for Spain. It accepts Visa, Visa Electron and Mastercard credit or debit cards for rental payment. The driver must present a physical card in their own name when collecting the vehicle, and prepaid cards, American Express, Maestro and Diners Club are not accepted under the published policy.

Payment rule

Can you rent from Centauro with a debit card?

Yes, according to Centauro’s current help centre. Credit and debit cards can be used, but the card must meet the supplier’s requirements. If you prepay online, Centauro says you must use the same Visa/Visa Electron or Mastercard credit/debit card when picking up the car.

Centauro deposit and SMART cover

Centauro separates the rental price from the security requirement. Its current prices-and-cover page states that standard card bookings can require a €900–€2,100 deposit, depending on the vehicle group. The company also states that choosing SMART cover can remove the deposit and excess, subject to its rental conditions.

Important: “debit card accepted” and “no deposit” are not the same thing. Check the final rate, coverage and vehicle group before paying.

Where can you rent with Centauro in Spain?

Centauro’s Spain page currently lists airport locations including Alicante, Málaga, Mallorca, Murcia, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Ibiza, Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela, plus selected train-station locations. The pickup method is not identical everywhere, so read the office instructions for your exact location.

Centauro at Málaga vs Alicante: pickup is different

At Málaga Airport, Centauro currently instructs customers to walk toward the Renfe airport station and wait in the courtesy-shuttle area for its yellow minibus; the company says it runs about every 10–15 minutes during office hours. At Alicante Airport, Centauro currently directs arriving customers to the Centauro desk in the arrivals hall.

This is why MySpanishCar separates pickup location from payment and deposit rules: the same company can have a different collection process at different Spanish airports.

What to check before booking Centauro

  • Final total: compare the rental total, not only the headline daily price.
  • Deposit: confirm whether your selected rate leaves a security amount on the card.
  • Card: bring the physical card required by the booking terms and make sure it is in the correct driver’s name.
  • Coverage: understand what the base excess is and what SMART changes.
  • Pickup: save the exact desk, parking or shuttle instructions before flying.
  • Opening hours: check late-arrival rules if your flight lands near closing time.
